Profile
Eleven years spent on the single hardest building type there is.
Edmond Kipyegon is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Taison Group Limited and Healthcare Designers Limited (HDL), its specialist hospital design practice. Over the past eleven years, he has established a unique position in African healthcare infrastructure by leading a firm that designs, builds, equips, and maintains hospitals. This approach ensures responsibility for each facility throughout its lifecycle, rather than ending involvement at project handover.
Since his first hospital project in 2015, Edmond has overseen more than 40 healthcare projects across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, ranging from specialist clinics to Level 5 and Level 6 referral hospitals. He has grown Taison and HDL from two employees to a fully self-funded team of over 70. Approximately 90% of the hospitals designed and built by HDL remain under the firm's maintenance after handover, reflecting strong client relationships.
The model
One organisation, accountable from the first drawing to the fiftieth year.
Hospitals are among the most complex buildings to design and construct. Decisions regarding clinical adjacencies, patient flow, infection prevention, medical gas systems, and commissioning directly affect patient safety, operational efficiency, and long-term building performance. Planning errors often become permanent features of the facility.
Edmond structured Taison Group around an integrated delivery model that ensures continuity from concept through long-term operation — and closes the loop, so that what maintenance teaches goes back into the next design.
Hospital planning led by specialists in clinical workflow, regulatory requirement, and the operational realities of active facilities. HDL was founded in 2021 to hold this expertise in-house.
Construction teams involved from the earliest design stages, bridging the traditional gap between designer and contractor to minimise delays, variations, and compromise.
Coordination of medical equipment, furniture, and healthcare technology, so that each facility is fully functional, clinically compliant, and ready for service from day one.
Long-term support, maintenance, renovation, and operational improvement that extends the life of each asset and informs the design of future facilities.
This model reflects Edmond's leadership: client relationships continue to evolve after project handover. Many clients return for additional projects, while others retain the Group to maintain and upgrade existing facilities. The result is a set of enduring partnerships rather than a simple portfolio of completed buildings.

Vision
Africa's healthcare infrastructure gap will not be closed by importing design or exporting construction. It will be addressed by firms that understand hospital operations, build to standard, and provide ongoing support after handover. We aim to demonstrate this model at scale. In the coming years, we plan to expand our portfolio, grow regionally, and deliver larger referral facilities.Edmond Kipyegon — Founder & Chief Executive Officer
